Plate IThe isle as the Truthsayers draw it. The coast is given as it was last agreed; it moves with the mist.
Before the mists closed, the Old Ones set their stones across Albion in rings and rows, and the first men of the isle learned to read the cuts upon them. Those readers became Truthsayers, and the ritual they keep is older than any kingdom of the mainland.
For a thousand years no ship found the isle. Sailors spoke of a grey wall on the water that gave back their own voices. Behind it the tribes fought their small wars, buried their dead in barrows, and tended the stones.
The Thinning
Then the Dark Master sent his Emissaries into the fens, and the ritual faltered. The mists thinned. Where they lifted, the isle was found — by mercenaries, by treasure-hunters, by worse.
The Hosts Answer
The four hosts — Blue, Red, Green and Grey — answered that lifting. They came down from the hills in bronze and woad, with a Truthsayer walking ahead of them, and they have not gone home since.

Who marches
Seated at the Antler Throne. Hunters of the high moor who ride great elk and run their quarry onto the cliffs. The chieftain on the box lid is theirs. Run them to the edge.
Seated at the Bronze Barrow. Barrow-wardens in ancestral bronze, dug out of the mounds and worn by grandsons. The slowest host and the last to move. We hold what is buried.
Seated at the Drowned Oak. Fenmen of the sunken forest who fight waist-deep and let the water do half of it. Their dead are weighted, and sometimes come back up. Give them to the water.
Seated at Carn Dhu, the Black Cairn. Stone-bearers who carry cut menhirs into the line and set them down where the host must not break. The stones remember.
Named Characters
Gwyth of the Blue Host, woad to the waist
He took the antlered helm off a chieftain he killed at sixteen and has worn it since, which the old men of his host say is why the elk still answer him. He carries his grandfather's shield, green with patina, and will not have it cleaned.
Named Characters
The Hag on the far bank, with her skull-staff
Maddoc Greystone, Truthsayer of the Grey Host, reads the cuts on the stones and will tell you exactly what they say, which is rarely what anyone wants. He has outlived four chieftains.
The Hag of Nine Teeth is a Dark Emissary who came into the Weeping Fen and never left. She knows the host's names. She uses them.

Bestiary
Mist-wolves, blue-eyed, running ahead of the Hag
Nothing on Albion is only an animal. The bog keeps what it takes and gives some of it back changed, and a Truthsayer will tell you the difference between a wolf and a thing wearing one.
Bestiary
Bog, root and stone pulled upright by a Truthsayer's word. It does not tire and it does not care. Cut it and you are cutting mud.
A giant that went into the fen to drink and stayed. It is slower now and far worse tempered, and it remembers the taste of the Red Host's grandfathers.
Grey, silent, and far too interested. They hunt by the names the Hag gives them.
